FOIA Request to University of Illinois at Chicago Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.

As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, we have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the University of Illinois at Chicago. Our request seeks detailed information about Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university.

Specifically, we are asking for documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments. If student names are protected, we have requested a total count broken down by department. Additionally, we seek information on scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. We also aim to identify recipients of scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Furthermore, our request includes any policies or procedures that describe how the university monitors students, including Chinese Nationals, to safeguard its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of Chicago City Wire and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As media professionals dedicated to providing comprehensive news coverage and holding public institutions accountable, access to public records is crucial for fulfilling our responsibilities.
