The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) is marking a significant milestone, celebrating five years of partnership with Allegiant Air. This collaboration has provided affordable nonstop travel options to residents in Chicago and the surrounding region.
Kristen Schilling-Gonzales, Allegiant’s VP Planning & Revenue, expressed her excitement about the achievement: “We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone with Chicago Midway International Airport. Our partnership with MDW has allowed us to provide affordable, nonstop options to countless passengers. This moment marks another milestone in what has been an incredible journey and we look forward to many more years of success.”
Allegiant Air, known for its leisure-focused services, schedules flights around vacation seasons to offer convenient and affordable travel. A distinctive feature of the airline is that all flights are nonstop, reducing airport time for passengers.
CDA Acting Commissioner Tracey Payne acknowledged Allegiant's contribution over the past five years: “I am proud to celebrate Allegiant’s ongoing commitment to Midway over these past five years. Expanded service and destinations from our low-cost carrier partners helps keep Chicagoans connected to a wide range of destinations for business, leisure or anything in between while keeping airfares affordable.”
This summer is expected to be one of the busiest in history for O’Hare and Midway airports, with more than 17.8 million departing seats scheduled between June and August. Allegiant's expanded service contributes significantly to this increase.
Allegiant is one of three ultra-low-cost carriers at Midway Airport. These carriers have contributed to making Midway's airfares 10% below the national average according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s latest Domestic Airline Consumer Airfare Report.
In June 2025, Allegiant will have its largest-ever number of departing seats from Midway within a single month. At the peak of its summer schedule in July, it will serve six nonstop destinations from Midway, compared to four when it started operations there in May 2020:
- Asheville, North Carolina (2x weekly)
- Destin, Florida (3x weekly)
- Knoxville, Tennessee (2x weekly)
- Provo, Utah (2x weekly)
- Punta Gorda, Florida (2x weekly)
- Savannah, Georgia (2x weekly)
