Chicago Fire FC secured a 3-1 victory over Orlando City SC at Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando on Saturday night. The win improved Chicago's record to 6-5-4, while Orlando dropped to 7-4-6.
Hugo Cuypers played a pivotal role for Chicago, scoring twice with assists from Philip Zinckernagel. Zinckernagel also scored his sixth goal of the season early in the match. "The visitors kept a compact shape, allowing little to get through and taking space when offered," according to the match report.
Orlando initially dominated possession but failed to capitalize on their chances. Pedro Gallese, Orlando's goalkeeper, was unable to stop Zinckernagel's shot which knuckled through his gloves into the net.
Cuypers doubled Chicago's lead after receiving a pass from Zinckernagel in the 31st minute. He quickly added another goal seconds after the restart, making it 3-0 for Chicago. Alex Freeman reduced the deficit with a header in the 40th minute for Orlando.
In the second half, Orlando sought another goal but was thwarted by Chris Brady’s saves for Chicago. The Fire maintained their advantage and left with their fifth road win of the year.
Chicago will conclude its East Coast road trip with a rematch against D.C. United next Saturday at Audi Field.
"Forward Hugo Cuypers delivered his second multi-goal game of the season," noted team officials. Cuypers set a club record for fastest brace in history during this match.
Philip Zinckernagel has been consistent as well, scoring in four consecutive matches across all competitions and contributing goals or assists in six straight road games.
Homegrown defender Christopher Cupps started his second regular-season game against Orlando, filling in for Sam Rogers due to injury.
Chicago Fire FC Communications highlighted that this victory marks their first time winning five road games since 2012.
