Chicago Fire FC II secured a decisive 5-0 victory over Columbus Crew 2 at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. The match took place on Sunday afternoon, with Chicago's record improving to 5-4-1-0 and Columbus dropping to 2-6-2-0.
Defender and captain Diego Konincks scored his first goal of the season, followed by Justin Reynolds' second goal in the first half. In the second half, Trip Fleming, Jean Alpha Diouf, and Jason Shokalook each contributed a goal for Chicago.
Columbus began the match aggressively, earning eight corner kicks within the first half. However, Chicago's defense held firm. Claudio Cassano's corner kick led to Konincks' header in the 16th minute for Chicago's opening goal.
Columbus' aggressive play resulted in multiple fouls and two red cards. This allowed Chicago to capitalize on their numerical advantage, culminating in Reynolds scoring just before halftime.
In the second half, Harold Osorio assisted Fleming for a goal shortly after play resumed. Cassano set up Diouf from a corner kick for another score in the 70th minute. A minute later, Shokalook added another goal following an assist from Vitaliy Hlyut.
Goalkeeper Patrick Los made three saves to achieve his second clean sheet of the year and secure Chicago's fifth win of the season.
