Joe Mansueto, owner and chairman of the Chicago Fire Football Club, has announced plans for a new soccer-specific stadium and entertainment district in Chicago. The privately funded project is set to be located at Roosevelt and the river, with an expected opening in Spring 2028.
Mansueto expressed his deep connection to Chicago, stating, "I love this city. I was born and raised in the shadow of its iconic skyline." He shared that although he did not initially intend to own a professional sports team, the opportunity to purchase the Chicago Fire in 2018 was one he could not refuse.
The new stadium aims to serve as more than just a venue for soccer matches. Mansueto emphasized that it will be "a space for fans of all ages, backgrounds and neighborhoods to come together and celebrate the beautiful game – right in the heart of our city." The development is expected to contribute to job creation, economic growth, and community life within what will become Chicago's 78th neighborhood.
Mansueto highlighted the club's upward trajectory by stating, "The Chicago Fire is a Club on the rise. And soon, we’ll have a permanent home that reflects the passion, energy and pride of the city we love."
