Brian Kasal, President of Northside Republicans, has expressed support for the Supreme Court's ruling in Noem v. Doe, which he believes ends unlawful parole programs and aligns with former President Donald Trump's efforts to restore law, order, and border security. Kasal shared his views with Chicago City Wire.
"With its decision in Noem v. Doe, the Supreme Court has reinforced that immigration must be handled within legal frameworks," said Kasal. "Biden's parole initiative sidestepped Congress and threatened national security. The Court's action prevents further erosion of lawful immigration policy. President Trump is now empowered to correct the course and protect American communities from unchecked entry."
In an order released on May 30, 2025, the Supreme Court said that the April 15, 2025 order from the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts is stayed pending further legal proceedings. The stay will remain until a decision is made by the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit or if a petition for a writ of certiorari is filed and denied.
According to Politico, this decision allows the Trump administration to resume deporting approximately 500,000 immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela who entered under President Joe Biden’s "humanitarian parole" programs. The Supreme Court's brief order lifted a lower court ruling that had blocked the program’s cancellation. Immigrants affected may lose work permits and face possible deportation but could seek asylum. Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented due to concerns about potential suffering. These programs were initiated during Biden's presidency in 2022–2023 and faced criticism from Trump in 2024.
The Heritage Foundation reported that since Biden assumed office, over 6.2 million illegal immigrants have been encountered at U.S. borders, with around 2 million released into the country. Many had prior criminal convictions including assault and murder; over 1.5 million "gotaways" remain untracked. A Department of Justice report from 2021 indicated that noncitizens accounted for 64% of federal arrests in 2018 despite being only 7% of the population. Rising immigrant deaths and safety issues have been attributed to lenient border policies and sanctuary cities.
Kasal has served as President of Chicago's Northside Republican Club since his appointment in 2021. According to the organization’s website, he aims to boost Republican voter turnout, grow party membership, and communicate party positions on issues relevant to voters on Chicago's Northside.
