Exterior improvements to the Greenstone United Methodist Church in Pullman may soon be underway. A $1.2 million Adopt-A-Landmark grant, proposed by Mayor Brandon Johnson to the City Council, aims to facilitate these renovations.

The church, located at 11211 S. St. Lawrence Ave., requires repairs on its green-hued masonry belltower, which has been deteriorating due to weather conditions. The proposed grant would cover all project costs.

Greenstone Church was built in 1882 and received its designation as a Chicago landmark in 1972.

The Adopt-A-Landmark grants are designed to support restoration efforts for designated Chicago landmarks across the city. Funding for these grants comes from Neighborhood Opportunity Bonus fees collected from downtown construction projects.
