Chicago Fire FC's winger Philip Zinckernagel has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 21. This recognition follows his performance in the team's recent 3-2 victory over Charlotte FC at Soldier Field.
Zinckernagel, who is a 2025 MLS All-Star, recorded his eighth goal and assist of the season during this match, setting a club record by achieving these stats in just his 17th game with Chicago. He opened the scoring in the 23rd minute after receiving a pass from defender Jonathan Dean and making a run into Charlotte's box before scoring past goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina.
Shortly after, Zinckernagel assisted midfielder Brian Gutiérrez in doubling the lead. This achievement made him the fastest player in club history to reach eight goals and eight assists, surpassing Polish international Roman Kosecki's record from 1998 by five matches.
This marks Zinckernagel’s third appearance on the MLS Team of the Matchday this season, having previously been included in Matchday 5's Starting XI and on the bench for Matchday 17. His consistent performances have also earned him a place on the 2025 MLS All-Star Team as selected by head coach Nico Estévez.
The Chicago Fire will next play against FC Cincinnati on July 5 at TQL Stadium. The match will start at 6:30 p.m. CT and can be viewed globally via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV or locally through wlsam.com (English) and Que Buena Fire via the Uforia App (Spanish).
