The Chicago Sky's Elizabeth Williams is making a significant impact in her third season with the team. After recovering from a season-ending injury, Williams has emerged as a leader both on and off the court. Her performance this season has been impressive, with notable statistics that have positioned her as a contender for Sixth Woman of the Year.
Williams reflected on her approach to returning from injury, saying, “It’s just approaching every day with gratitude.” She emphasized enjoying the game without focusing too much on results. Her aggressive playstyle has led to one of her best seasons yet, averaging 14.6 points per 36 minutes.
Her leadership extends beyond her personal achievements. Williams is known for guiding younger players like Kamilla Cardoso, Angel Reese, Hailey Van Lith, and Maddy Westbeld. She shared advice she received: “As a player, you’re drafted for a reason... it’s because you’re good at certain things.”
Despite challenges such as close losses and lineup changes due to absences, Williams remains optimistic about the team's direction. “We have a new coach and pretty much a whole new team,” she said, highlighting the importance of bonding both on and off the court.
Williams has committed to the Sky through two contracts and expressed confidence in the franchise's future under ownership and general manager Jeff Pagliocca's vision. She believes that recent changes, including hiring Tyler Marsh as coach and bringing in new players, have set the stage for success.
“I think it says a lot having the recent championship,” Williams remarked about her commitment to the Sky. She praised her teammates not only as skilled players but also as exceptional individuals contributing to their locker room dynamic.
