UI Health has been recognized with the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Commitment to Quality award for its performance in multiple clinical areas. The honor is given to hospitals that show high achievement in at least three programs within the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get With The Guidelines initiative.

This year, UI Health earned nine Get With The Guidelines awards for its work in stroke, heart failure, coronary artery disease, and resuscitation care. Only 158 hospitals across the country received the Commitment to Quality Award.

According to the AHA, this new award recognizes hospitals that take a broad approach to quality improvement. These organizations use real-time data registries and evidence-based protocols while promoting teamwork across different medical specialties. This strategy aims to improve standards of care throughout several departments.

The importance of these efforts is highlighted by recent statistics from the AHA, which state that heart disease and stroke remain leading causes of death in the United States. Studies indicate that patient outcomes improve when providers follow established treatment guidelines.

"Each Get With The Guidelines program promotes consistent adherence to the latest research-driven guidelines and measurement, while providing data and information to professionals for continual improvement in patient care," according to an official statement from UI Health.
