Chicago Fire FC has acquired midfielder André Franco on loan from FC Porto for the remainder of the 2025 season, with an option to purchase. The Portuguese player will fill an international roster spot. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed, in line with club and MLS policy.

“We’re excited to welcome André to Chicago to bolster the team as we make a push for the playoffs and look to finish the season strong,” said Chicago Fire FC Director of Football and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. “He is an experienced midfielder who has played in several competitions across Europe as well as the FIFA Club World Cup and we know that he can make an impact this season.”

Franco, age 27, arrives from Porto where he played 71 matches and scored five goals since joining in 2022. He contributed to Porto’s recent successes, including two Portuguese Cup victories (2023, 2024), a Primeira Liga title in 2022-23, and a Portuguese Super Cup win in 2025. He also participated in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, making an appearance against Palmeiras.

“I’m very happy to join the Chicago Fire and can’t wait to wear the jersey and begin playing with our colors,” said Franco. “I hope it’s the beginning of a wonderful journey and that we can achieve all our goals together.”

Before his time at Porto, Franco developed at Sporting CP Academy before spending time on loan at Belenenses U-19 Academy. He later joined G.D. Estoril Praia’s U-23 squad, progressing to their first team where he helped secure promotion by winning Portugal's second division title in 2020-21. For Estoril’s senior side, he made 72 appearances with 15 goals and 10 assists.

Franco is originally from Lisbon, Portugal.

Transaction: Chicago Fire FC acquires midfielder André Franco from FC Porto of the Portuguese Primeira Liga for the 2025 season. Franco will occupy an international roster position with the Fire.
