Chicago Fire FC secured a 3-2 win over St. Louis CITY SC on Saturday night at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. The victory improved Chicago’s record to 11-9-6, totaling 39 points for the season, while St. Louis dropped to 5-15-6 with 21 points.

The match opened with Chicago controlling possession. In the 16th minute, Brian Gutiérrez set up Andrew Gutman on the wing, who then crossed the ball for Hugo Cuypers to score the first goal.

St. Louis responded early in the second half when Tomáš Ostrák recovered a loose ball and scored just two minutes after halftime. In the 59th minute, Ostrák assisted Marcel Hartel, who put St. Louis ahead.

Chicago equalized eight minutes later as Dje D’Avilla passed to Philip Zinckernagel, who navigated through defenders and scored at the near post. With three minutes left in regulation time, Gutman found Zinckernagel at the top of the box; Zinckernagel drew defenders before passing to Gutiérrez, who finished past goalkeeper Roman Bürki for the winning goal.

“Forward Hugo Cuypers tallied his 15th goal of 2025 to open the scoring against St. Louis. The goal tied him with 2013 MLS MVP Mike Magee (2013) and Nemanja Nikolic (2018) for the third-most scored in a single season,” according to club communications.

“Philip Zinckernagel’s equalizing goal and game-winning assist raised his season totals to 11 goals and 13 assists. The combined 24 goal contributions are now tied with Ante Razov (2000) for second-most in a single Fire season, trailing 2017 MLS Golden Boot winner Nemanja Nikolic by four,” stated team officials.

“His 13 assists is the third most in a Fire season, tied with midfielder Diego Gutiérrez (2000) and only one assist behind record-holders Jerzy Prodbrozny (1998) and Piotr Nowak (2000),” added club representatives.

“With his eighth goal and third assist of the year, Brian Gutiérrez matched his career-high in goal contributions (11) for a season. In 2023, the Homegrown midfielder tallied two goals and nine assists. He is also now second on the team behind Cuypers (5) with two game-winning goals in 2025 for Chicago,” noted team staff.

Tonight’s result moved Chicago ahead in their regular-season history against St. Louis CITY SC with a record of two wins and one loss; they also won their first Lamar U.S. Open Cup meeting in May 2023 at SeatGeek Stadium.

Unavailable players included Rominigue Kouamé and David Poreba due to lower body injuries; Chris Mueller was placed on the Season Ending Injury list.

The announced attendance was 17,485 spectators.
