The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) will host the 2025 Senior Fest on Thursday, August 21, at Millennium Park. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., coinciding with National Senior Citizens Day.
Mayor Brandon Johnson emphasized the significance of the annual gathering, stating, “I am thrilled to continue this beloved tradition of celebrating our city’s seniors by putting on one of the largest celebrations for seniors in Chicagoland. From wellness resources to world-class entertainment, this festival is a testament to our gratitude to Chicago’s senior citizens for building and shaping our great city. My administration is honored to uplift and serve our senior community on National Senior Citizens Day and always.”
Senior Fest has its origins in a Senior Summer Picnic that began in 1968. Over time, it has grown into a major summer event for older adults across the metropolitan area. City officials expect between 5,000 and 6,000 participants this year.
The festival will offer live music by DJ Virgil Pilate and performances such as Motown Review featuring Dorothy Roberson and Mariachi Estrellas de Chicago. Activities include group exercise classes led by Symbria Rehab, cultural dance performances from local groups like Baila Dancers Pilsen Satellite Center and Chi-Town Hoofers, karaoke sessions, a picnic-style lunch, raffle prizes, photo booth opportunities, fresh popcorn distribution, as well as wellness resources.
“DFSS is thrilled to return to Millennium Park this summer to celebrate our incredible senior community with a packed agenda of fun activities as well as a resource fair to connect seniors with available support services,” said DFSS Commissioner Angela Green.
More than 70 community vendors are expected at the resource fair portion of the event. A vaccination clinic and wellness tent will also be available throughout the day.
Deputy Commissioner of Senior Services Margaret Laraviere added: “National Senior Citizens Day honors the contributions and achievements of older adults living in the United States. Similarly, Senior Fest celebrates our city’s fantastic senior population – their active lives, their lived experiences, and all the ways they show up and care for each other, their families and their city.”
