The Chicago Fire Academy began its 2025-26 MLS NEXT preseason with a series of matches and a local tournament at the Endeavor Health Performance Center in Chicago. The event included games for several age groups as the Academy continues preparations for upcoming national and international competitions.
The U18 team played their first preseason match against Columbus Crew at Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, Indiana, where they lost 6-4. Midfielder Damyan Villanueva scored from 40 yards out, marking his first goal at the U-18 level. On the same day, the U16s secured a 4-3 win over Columbus Crew.
In other matches held in Chicago, the U15 team beat FC United 3-1 with goals from Harrison Storey, Charlie Guevara, and Markas Steponavicius. The U14 squad also won their game against FC United with a 6-2 result. Deen Custic led with two goals, while Adrian Sotelo, Matthew Preddie, and Leandre Beckford also contributed to the scoreline.
The Academy hosted a preseason tournament for the U13s at the Endeavor Health Performance Center on Chicago’s Near West Side. The event featured 380 players across 42 matches and included participation from 16 local clubs. Attendance surpassed 800 spectators.
Looking ahead, the U16 team will represent Chicago Fire Academy at the GreenEyes International Tournament in Khouribga, Morocco from August 28 through September 1. Meanwhile, the U18 and U15 teams are set to compete in Nashville this weekend against academy teams from Nashville SC, D.C. United, and Atlanta United FC. The U13 and U14 squads will remain in Chicago to host Central Illinois United on August 23.
