Homeland Security: Media overlooks victims of illegal alien crime

Deportations of illegal immigrants receive heavy coverage from mainstream media, but stories of the victims of crimes committed by illegals are largely missing from the press, the Department of Homeland Security said in a recent statement.

“On the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) social media accounts,” the August 19 statement said, “DHS highlights criminal illegal aliens and their American victims every single day. Instead of telling these horrific and tragic stories, the media chooses to write stories on how artists are not happy with our social media and claims of appealing to ‘white identity.’”

It's an observation that Don Rosenberg, President of the Advocates for Victims of Illegal Alien Crime (AVIAC), has been making for years.

“I used to look at certain crimes and then check the coverage they received from the media in general,” Rosenberg told Chicago City Wire in an email. “It was very time-consuming, mostly because you were looking for things that didn’t exist. I haven't done it in quite a while, but over the past two weeks, I’ve started to create a list of some ‘high-profile’ crimes.”

As example, he cited the recent story of the killing of the mother of Former WNBA star Sophie Brunner by a drunk driver in the country illegally. Dracy Connolly-Brunner, 61, was killed in Freeport Illinois (100 miles west of Chicago) in a head-on crash caused by Rolando Ico-Choc, a 30-year-old Guatemalan national who had what the New York Post called a “disturbing history of drunk driving.”

“I know this is a current story but a quick search, other than the NY Post and Fox doesn’t show one other mainstream publication or broadcaster covering the story,” Rosenberg said. “I’m sure a week from now nothing will change.”

“Most of the public never sees these stories, even the ones that have a hook,” he continued. “As far as they are concerned, illegal aliens never kill anyone and don’t commit any crimes.”

Illinois state Sen. Andrew Cheseny (R-45th) confirmed to the New York Post that Ico-Choc had been on Homeland Security’s radar.

“A woman who dedicated her life to her family and her community was killed in broad daylight by a man who never should have been in this country or on the road,” Chesney said in a statement.

In the DHS statement, Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said that the “gutter state of ‘journalism’ does a disservice to the American people.”

“Every single day Americans are killed by illegal aliens who should have never been in this country. And nearly every single day the media ignore these victims. Where is the media’s obsession with our social media posts on Rachel Morin’s killer being sentenced to life in prison? Where is their coverage on the DHS video of Katie Abraham’s mom and dad telling their heartbreaking story of their daughter being killed in a hit and run by an illegal? Where is the story on the two high school sweethearts killed by an illegal alien drinking and driving in Wisconsin?”
