Chicago Fire FC secured a 2-0 win over Columbus Crew on Saturday night at Soldier Field, marking their second consecutive shutout. With this result, Chicago improved to 14-11-6 for the season and now holds a five-point lead over the New York Red Bulls in the race for ninth place in the Eastern Conference.
Defender Andrew Gutman scored his third goal of the season in the 25th minute, giving Chicago an early advantage. The team had two goals disallowed before halftime but maintained control through much of the match. In the second half, André Franco assisted Hugo Cuypers for Chicago’s second goal in the 70th minute. Cuypers’ tally was his 17th of the season and brings him closer to Ante Razov’s single-season club record.
Goalkeeper Chris Brady registered his fifth shutout of 2025 and set a new personal best with his 11th win of the year. This clean sheet was also his 17th career shutout and marked back-to-back games without conceding a goal for the second time this season.
Other notable performances included Jack Elliott’s third assist of the year on Gutman’s opener and André Franco notching his fourth assist in just five matches with Chicago. Philip Zinckernagel matched Álvaro Medrán for second-most corner kicks taken by a Fire player in one season, reaching 101.
Head Coach Gregg Berhalter achieved his first victory against former club Columbus Crew, which also placed him tied for 20th all-time among MLS coaches with Dave Dir.
The official attendance at Soldier Field was recorded at 22,321 spectators.
Chicago Fire will next play Inter Miami CF on Tuesday, September 30, in South Florida. The match was rescheduled due to Miami’s participation in Leagues Cup and will be available globally via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV as well as local radio broadcasts.
