The Carole Robertson Center for Learning may receive a $1.1 million grant from the Neighborhood Opportunity Fund (NOF) to help renovate its early childhood education center in South Lawndale. Mayor Brandon Johnson proposed the grant to the City Council.
The renovation project is estimated at $11.9 million and aims to modernize the nonprofit’s main location at 2929 W. 19th St. The facility serves over 500 children and families annually.
The NOF program uses fees collected from downtown construction projects to invest in commercial corridors on Chicago's South, Southwest, and West sides. Any NOF grant above $250,000 requires approval from the City Council.
Mayor Johnson’s proposal will be considered by city officials as part of ongoing efforts to support community-based organizations through targeted funding.
