CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL - At 4:09 PM, Assistant to the City Administrator Austin called to order the Regular Meeting of the Fire Police Commission at City Hall, 8 N Elmhurst Road, Prospect Heights, IL 60070. 

Assistant to the City Administrator Austin called roll. A quorum was present. COMMISSIONER'S PRESENT - Commissioner Fiorito, Chairman Hoffman COMMISSIONER'S ABSENT - Commissionar Riebman 

OTHER OFFICIALS PRESENT - Chief Derman, Assistant to the City Administrator Austin 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES - Chairman Hoffman moved to approve the July 30, 2025, Fire & Police Commission Minutes, and the August 12, 2025, Fire & Police Commission Minutes as presented; seconded by Commissioner Fiorito. There was unanimous approval.

NAYS: None 

ABSENT: Commissioner Riebman

NEW BUSINESS Chairman Hoffman moved to allow Commissioner Reibman to attend the meeting electronically; seconded by Commissioner Fiorito. There was unanimous approval.

OLD BUSINESS - The Police Department reviewed ongoing police testing efforts, noting that the application period closed on August 29, 2025, with 52 applicants having successfully completed documentation. These candidates are eligible for interviews scheduled over a Saturday, Sunday, and Monday in two weeks, after which an eligibility list will be compiled based on submitted preference points. 

DEPARTMENTAL UPDATES/CORRESPONDENCE — 

The Police Department reported updates on several initiatives: efforts to revise private property enforcement agreements, valid for 20 years, to allow enforcement of city ordinances, with some property owners hesitant due to high insurance requirements; the development of new local ordinances for electric and gas-powered bicycles to address non- compliance with road rules, with plans to educate residents prior to enforcement; the resignation of Probationary Officer Coleman on August 27, 2025, and Officer Melany on September 5, 2025, both in good standing; the upcoming swearing-in of part-time Officer Don Vasquez on September 8, 2025; and a conditional offer to a lateral police officer pending successful completion of background checks and required tests, with the department anticipating being one officer short pending hires from the current testing process.

ADJOURNMENT – At 4:22 PM, Chairman Hoffman moved to Adjourn; seconded by Commissioner Fiortio. There was unanimous approval.
