Chicago Fire FC played to a 2-2 draw against Toronto FC at Soldier Field on Saturday, in the team's final home match of the regular season. The result leaves Chicago with 52 points and eighth place in the Eastern Conference, just one point behind Orlando City SC.

Toronto took the lead in the 27th minute after a counterattack resulted in an own goal by Chicago defender Jack Elliott. Toronto held that advantage until the second half, when Chicago equalized from a corner kick. Philip Zinckernagel delivered the ball to Elliott, who scored his second goal of the season and first of the night.

Later in the match, Chicago earned a free kick outside Toronto's penalty area. Zinckernagel provided another assist for Elliott, who scored with a diving header for his second goal of the game. This marked Zinckernagel’s record-breaking 15th assist of the season.

In stoppage time, Toronto was awarded a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Chris Brady initially saved Djordje Mihailovic’s shot but could not prevent Mihailovic from scoring on the rebound, resulting in a 2-2 final score.

With two assists during this match, Zinckernagel set new club records for both single-season assists and total goal contributions. He surpassed previous marks held by Nemanja Nikolić (2017), Jerzy Podbrozny (1998), and Piotr Nowak (2000). Jack Elliott became the first player in club history to record both multiple goals and an own goal in one match.

The announced attendance was 24,653—the fifth largest crowd this season—bringing total home attendance for 2025 to 398,644, which is also a club record. The average attendance per match reached 23,450.

Chicago will have a week off before traveling to face New England Revolution on October 18 as part of Decision Day 2025. The game will be broadcast globally on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV and locally on WLS 890 AM (English) and Que Buena Fire through Uforia App (Spanish).

"With his two assists on Saturday, Philip Zinckernagel broke the Fire record for most goal contributions in a single season. The Danish midfielder’s 14 goals and 15 assists beat out the record set by Nemanja Nikolić in 2017, when he scored 24 goals and recorded four assists in a Golden Boot campaign," according to Chicago Fire FC Communications.

"Zinckernagel also broke Chicago’s single season assist record with his two assists in the match. The Danish winger overcame Jerzy Podbrozny (1998) and Piotr Nowak (2000) for most assists in a single season, making him the only Fire player to ever record 15 in one season," stated club officials.

"Jack Elliott recorded his first brace for Chicago, becoming the first player in Fire history to have a multi-goal appearance and an own goal in the same match," said team representatives.

The team has now scored 66 goals this year—one short of its all-time single-season mark set during the regular season of 2000—and will look to tie or break that milestone against New England Revolution later this month.
