City of Wheaton Board of Fire & Police Commissioners met Sept. 23

Here are the minutes provided by the commissioners:

I. Call to Order

At 5:01pm., Chair Illia called to order the special meeting of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. The meeting was held in the Conley Room at Wheaton City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St., Wheaton, Illinois. Upon roll call, the following were present: Chair Illia, Commissioner Cannova, Commissioner Haines, Chief Youker, Deputy Chief Gabryel, Deputy Chief Dillenkoffer, and HR Director Schulz. Commissioner Vroman was absent.

II. Public Comment - None

Ill. Approval of Minutes

a. Commissioner Cannova moved, and Commissioner Haines seconded the motion to approve the meeting minutes of August 27, 2025

Roll Call Vote:

Ayes: Chair Illia

Commissioner Cannova

Commissioner Haines

Nays: None

Commissioner Vroman was absent

The motion carried.

IV. Old Business — None

V. New Business —

a. Approve Final Entry Level Police Officer Eligibility List

i. Commissioner Haines moved, and Commissioner Cannova seconded the motion to approve the Initial Eligibility List of police officer candidates. The motion passed unanimously.

VI. Closed Session

a. Lateral Police Candidate Interviews 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1)

b. Police Commander Candidate Interviews 5ILCS 120/2(c)(1)

c. Firefighter Candidate Interviews 5ILCS 120/2(c)(1)

At 5:02 p.m., Commissioner Haines moved, and Commissioner Cannova seconded the motion to move into closed session for the purpose of interviewing Police and Fire candidates. The motion passed unanimously.

At 9:25 p.m., Commissioner Haines moved, and Commissioner Cannova seconded the motion to move out of closed session for the purpose of interviewing Police and Fire candidates. The motion passed unanimously.

VII. Adjournment

At 9:26 p.m., Commissioner Haines moved to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Cannova seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
