The Carole Robertson Center for Learning is set to renovate its South Lawndale childhood education facility with the help of a $1.1 million Neighborhood Opportunity Fund (NOF) grant. The grant was approved by the City Council.
The renovation project, valued at $11.9 million, will update the center's 37,000-square-foot flagship location at 2929 W. 19th St. The facility serves over 500 children and families in the South Lawndale area each year.
Funding for NOF grants comes from fees collected from downtown construction projects. These funds are used to invest in commercial corridors on Chicago’s South, Southwest, and West sides. Grants that exceed $250,000 require approval from the City Council.
