Two historic buildings in Chicago may soon benefit from Cook County Class L property tax incentives, following proposals submitted to the City Council by Mayor Brandon Johnson. The measure aims to support the preservation and rehabilitation of buildings that have been designated as landmarks or are contributing structures within landmark districts.
The Class L incentive is a tool designed to promote investment in historic properties by offering reduced property tax rates for qualifying restoration projects. This program encourages owners to maintain and restore architecturally significant buildings, helping preserve the city’s heritage.
