Twelve vacant lots on Chicago’s Near West Side may soon be redeveloped under a proposal introduced to the City Council by Mayor Brandon Johnson. The lots, totaling 0.9 acres and located on the 1600 and 1700 blocks of West Madison Street as well as the 2000 block of West Warren Boulevard, are slated for purchase by RE Holdings Group.

The sale price for the properties is set at $2.5 million, which was the highest among six bids submitted via the Department of Planning and Development’s ChiBlockBuilder land sale portal in October 2024. According to a market valuation conducted in 2024, the parcels were collectively valued at $1.6 million.

If approved, RE Holdings Group plans to use the sites for mixed-use construction projects.

“Twelve vacant City lots on the Near West Side would be purchased and redeveloped by RE Holdings Group through a land sale proposed to City Council by Mayor Brandon Johnson today.”
