The Empower Illinois scholarship program will soon be taking applications from students who may be interested in attending a Catholic or private school through the state’s new Invest in Kids Act.
The Invest in Kids scholarships cover up to 100 percent of tuition for students and families deemed eligible for the program based on such factors as adjusted gross income and size of family, with the funds being directly paid to the student’s school of choice. The program, passed by the Illinois Legislature in 2017, also provides a 75 percent tax credit for donors who contribute to the program through a qualified Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO).
Based on a partnership with the Archdiocese of Chicago Office of Catholic Schools, Empower Illinois will serve as the SGO for all Catholic schools, a release said. The Empower Illinois application will be available online Jan. 31
The Big Shoulders Fund has also been designated as a qualified SGO and interested applicants are encouraged to apply through both programs.
Those with questions about the Invest in Kids scholarships are encouraged to contact Pope Francis Global Academy Director of Admissions Jodi Thyen at 773-892-2011 or jthyen@pfgacademy.org.
