Liven up your Mondays with these free events from the Rock Island Public Library in August:
Coin Collecting Basics with the Quad City Coin Club, Monday, August 6, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street. The library hosts the Quad City Coin Club, who will present an evening of learning about coins, and the basics of coin collecting. Pick up a new hobby at your library! Age level: everyone.
Coffee And a Movie Morning, 9:30 am to noon, Monday, August 13, Rock Island Downtown Library. Rock Island Library offers a free movie showing from the library collection and complimentary coffee on the second Monday of every month. This month's movie features one of the newer Marvel superheroes, and his quest to save his hidden African kingdom. It's rated PG-13. Age level: 18 and up.
The Way We Were: Rock Island Photos from the 1890s, Monday, August 20, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, Rock Island Downtown Library. Photographer Oscar Hakelier ran the “Vienna Photographic Studio” from 1888 to 1903 at 1722 2nd Avenue in downtown Rock Island. His photographs of Rock Island, the Arsenal Island, riverboats on the Mississippi River, and other activities show life in the 1890s. The fragile photographs, kept safely in the Rock Island Library special collection archives, have now been digitized and restored. See them with this free event! Age level: Everyone.
