Byron Sigcho-Lopez and Alexander "Alex" Acevedo will participate in a run-off election on April 2 to see who will serve as 25th Ward alderman after voters failed to elect a clear winner on Tuesday.
With all 32 precincts reporting, Sigcho-Lopez received 2,810 votes, or 29.4 percent of the overall vote. Acevedo came in second with 2,129 votes (22.2 percent), according to the Chicago Board of Elections.
Under Chicago election laws, a run-off election is required if no candidate garners at least 50 percent of the votes.
Chicago has 1,581,755 registered voters, but only 530,797 (33.56 percent) cast ballots on Tuesday, which was a near record low turnout. There were a total of 9,573 votes cast in the Ward 25 alderman race.
All results from Tuesday’s vote are unofficial until certified by the election board on March 13.
