Matt Martin and Michael A. Negron will participate in a run-off election on April 2 to see who will serve as Ward 47 alderman after voters failed to elect a clear winner on Tuesday.
With all 48 precincts reporting, Martin received 7,189 votes, or 39.38 percent of the overall vote. Negron came in second with 3,864 votes (21.17 percent), according to the Chicago Board of Elections.
Under Chicago election laws, a run-off election is required if no candidate garners at least 50 percent of the votes.
Chicago has 1,581,755 registered voters, but only 530,797 (33.56 percent) cast ballots on Tuesday, which was a near record low turnout. There were a total of 18,254 votes cast in the Ward 47 alderman race.
All results from Tuesday’s vote are unofficial until certified by the election board on March 13.
