Former substitute teacher Prohaska paid in $6K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $63K in retirement

Former substitute teacher Maryann Prohaska, who retired in February 2016, saved $5,969 toward a pension over 5 years working for public schools, Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Prohaska would collect as much as $62,611, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Prohaska received $1,316 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 5 years of retirement, Prohaska will have already received $6,986 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
