Former state university employee Bodie Peals paid in $2K to pension fund, could collect $82K in retirement

Former state university employee Mae Bodie Peals, who retired in August 2018, saved $1,579 toward a pension over 5 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Bodie Peals would collect as much as $81,981, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Bodie Peals received $1,723 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 1 years of retirement, Bodie Peals will have already received $1,723 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
