Former state university employee Reckers paid in $10K to pension fund, could collect $179K in retirement

Former state university employee Lawrence Reckers, who retired in August 2018, saved $10,016 toward a pension over 17 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Reckers would collect as much as $179,264, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Reckers received $3,768 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Reckers will have already received $11,646 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
