Former state university employee Michl paid in $36K to pension fund, could collect $686K in retirement

Former state university employee Rose Michl, who retired in May 2016, saved $35,612 toward a pension over 17 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Michl would collect as much as $686,387, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Michl received $14,427 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Michl will have already received $44,593 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
