Former state university employee Aigner paid in $19K to pension fund, could collect $292K in retirement

Former state university employee Janice Aigner, who retired in November 2017, saved $18,778 toward a pension over 17 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Aigner would collect as much as $292,428, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Aigner received $6,146 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Aigner will have already received $18,996 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
