Former state university employee Page paid in $31K to pension fund, could collect $352K in retirement

Former state university employee Steven Page, who retired in February 2016, saved $31,311 toward a pension over 12 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Page would collect as much as $351,814, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Page received $7,394 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 5 years of retirement, Page will have already received $39,254 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
