Former state university employee Ten Have paid in $50K to pension fund, could collect $749K in retirement

Former state university employee Hendrik Ten Have, who retired in May 2016, saved $50,391 toward a pension over 12 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Ten Have would collect as much as $749,147, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Ten Have received $15,746 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Ten Have will have already received $65,875 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
