Former state university employee Reyes Portner paid in $26K to pension fund, could collect $341K in retirement

Former state university employee Felicia Reyes Portner, who retired in July 2018, saved $26,402 toward a pension over 3 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Reyes Portner would collect as much as $341,458, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Reyes Portner received $7,177 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Reyes Portner will have already received $30,025 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
