Commission on Chicago Landmarks met Sept. 5.

Here is the agenda provided by the commission:

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks held its regularly scheduled meeting on September 5, 2019. The meeting was held at City Hall, 121 North LaSalle Street, Room 201-A, Chicago, Illinois. The meeting began at 12:51 p.m.

1. Approval of the Minutes of Previous Meeting

Regular Meeting of August 1, 2019

Motioned by Smith, seconded by Tolliver. Approved unanimously (6-0).

2. Report from the Department of Planning and Development

THE PROMONTORY APARTMENTS 5530-5532 SOUTH SHORE DRIVE WARD 5

Kathy Dickhut presented the report. Vote to accept the DPD report and take the next step in the designation process for the Promontory Apartments to request consent from the property owners.

Motioned by Smith, seconded by Rossi. Approved unanimously (6-0).

3. Class L Property Tax Incentive – Final Certification

FORMER CHICAGO HISTORICAL SOCIETY BUILDING WARD 42 632 North Dearborn Street

Kandalyn Hahn presented the report. Motion to certify that the project has been substantially completed in accordance with the approved ordinance and meets the eligibility requirements for the Class L incentive for the Former Chicago Historical Society Building.

Motioned by Wong, seconded by Smith. Approved unanimously (6-0).

4. Preliminary Decision on Permit Application for Demolition Pursuant to §2-120-740 through §2-120-825 of the Municipal Code

ARMITAGE-HALSTED DISTRICT WARD 43 2132 North Halsted Street

Emily Barton presented the report. Vote to approve demolition of 2132 N. Halsted Street.

Motioned by Smith, seconded by Gorski. Approved unanimously (6-0).

5. Schedule for a Public Hearing on Final Landmark Recommendation - Announcement

Chairman Leon announced:

CLAREMONT COTTAGE DISTRICT WARD 28 1000-block of South Claremont Avenue between West Taylor and West Grenshaw Streets, and 2342 West Grenshaw Street

A public hearing will be held:

Date: Monday, September 9, 2019

Location: City Hall, 121 North LaSalle Street, Room 1003-A

Time: 9:30 a.m.

6. Permit Review Committee Reports

Report on Projects Reviewed at the August 1, 2019, Permit Review Committee Meetings

Commissioner Wong presented the report from the Permit Review Committee meetings of August 5, 2019 (see attached).

Report on Permit Decisions by the Commission Staff for the Month of August 2019

Larry Shure presented the staff report for the month of August 2019 (see attached).

7. Schedule for a Public Hearing on Final Landmark Recommendation - Announcement

Chairman Leon announced:

The meeting of the Program Committee for review of suggestions received from the public for Chicago landmark designation and nominations to the National Register of Historic Places will be held:

Date: Tuesday, September 24, 2019

Time: 10:00 a.m.

Location: City Hall, 121 North LaSalle Street, Room 201-A

Deadline for submissions is Monday, September 16, 2019. All suggestions must be submitted on a form available on the Chicago Landmarks website or from the Historic Preservation office.

The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 1:22 p.m.
