Illinois State House District 40 issued the following announcement on Jan. 29.
State Rep. Jaime Andrade, D-Chicago, released the following statement after Gov. Pritzker’s State of the State address:
“We have made some critical progress over the past year, and this State of the State address is a great opportunity for all of us to reflect on what we must do over the coming months to continue the previous year’s momentum. Last year, we took some big steps forward to put Illinois back on track, including investing in new skills training programs that help businesses partner with their community to prepare workers for high-wage jobs. I am especially proud of our work to pass a bipartisan, balanced budget that pays down old bills and provides $350 million in new funding for public schools.
“We need to continue investing in our people. The members of our communities deserve livable wages, affordable college, good schools, safe neighborhoods, access to affordable health care and a helping hand when they are struggling to make ends meet. We need to continue to expand career and vocational education, and pass common-sense gun control legislation to keep our communities safe and thriving. As elected officials, it is our job to work for the betterment of the people we represent, and I look forward to continuing my work at home and in Springfield.
“I am committed to building on the progress we have made. It is so important that we work together to build a stronger Illinois that puts our middle-class families first.”
