Illinois State House District 26 issued the following announcement on March 13.

As part of his environmental advocacy work, state Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, recently introduced new legislation seeking to expand the presence of electric vehicle charging stations and time-of-use meters in Illinois. If passed, this measure would help encourage environmental choices through the use of electric cars.

“After hearing directly from constituents about the stunning lack of electric vehicle stations and meters, I knew immediate action was needed,” Buckner said. “That is why I drafted this measure to help expand the presence of electric vehicle charging stations and meters.”

Rep. Buckner is championing House Bill 4148, which would help expand and encourage the use of electric vehicles in Illinois. This bill would work to effectively remove any unreasonable restrictions that block the installation or use of electric vehicle charging stations and meters. After hearing directly from constituents about the significant lack of charging stations and meters in the South Loop, Buckner crafted this measure for the entire state after assessing underlying issues. If passed, this legislation would help increase the use of electric cars by encouraging the presence of electric vehicle charging stations and meters throughout Illinois.

“In order to support our community members’ environmental choices, we need to ensure they are easily accessible,” Buckner said. “Through this measure, it is my hope we can better support the use of electric cars. In order to build a stronger Illinois and safeguard a brighter future for younger generations, we must work together to create meaningful change in environmental policies.”
