Chicago Republican committeeman claims 'unemployment on the rise' is by design

Chicago Republican Committeeman David Krupa said there's a method to the maddening way he thinks Gov. J.B. Pritzker has handled the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Most states want their people to feel self-sufficient, but here in Illinois, we have Democratic leaders, like the governor, that want people relying more on the government because that makes them feel more powerful," Krupa told Chicago City Wire. "With that happening, everyone from the governor to [House] Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) feel they have a greater reach."

According to the latest Illinois Department of Employment Security data, the state has lost jobs in two of the last three tracked months since September. Decembers job numbers are not yet released. The decline comes when parts of the country are showing signs of stabilizing to the tune of seven straight months of job growth.

The bulk of the job losses across Illinois have come in the leisure and hospitality industry, the report found, which lost upward of 27,000 during November.

"It's disappointing to see unemployment on the rise and people struggling like they are here," Krupa said. "But I really think it's all by design and part of a plan to justify more taxes and bigger government."

Krupa worries more hard times could be on the way barring a drastic shift in direction coming from Springfield.

"Even before the pandemic, Illinois was already one of the worse run states in the country and this has only made it worse," he said. "Our leaders have the bad habit of putting politics over people and this is a time where we really need to be paying attention to the needs of residents. After this, I'm hoping we'll start to pay closer attention to who we put in office to represent us and start placing the substance of what they're offering over everything else."
