City of Wheaton Environmental Improvement Commission Met May 25.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

I. Call to Order: Chairman Ted Witte called the meeting to order at 7:35.

Present were Cathy Coleman and Tony Pope. Present on Zoom were Shamili Ajgaonkar, Nancy Flynn, Tony Majszak, and Brian McKee. Absent were Kay McKeen, David Popham, Christine Richardson, Allison Torrence, and Bob Young .

II. Approval of Minutes:

Tony Pope moved that the minutes from the April meeting be approved. Tony Majszak seconded. The minutes were approved by unanimous voice vote.

III. Budget Report:

Bob sent a report that expenses to date total $18,533.45, and $233 is pending. $2736.55 remains open to spend.

IV. Public Comment:

None

V. Reports:

1. Electronic Recycling (May 8 ):Tony Majszak reported that it was a slow day, probably due to the large event in April. EWorks had 5 men and the volunteers included Jim Truesdale, David Popham, Tony M, and Bob. There were about 400 bulbs and dumped items including a TV and ten other items.

2. Adopt a Highway (May 22): Nancy reported she and her husband and Tony and Annette Pope cleaned the EIC area, and that it was much dirtier than expected. They collected 4 bags. Democratic Party of Milton Township held a clean up of their area on May 1 and collected 12 bags.

3. Arbor Day (April 30): Nancy reported that she, Bob, Allison, and Kay attended the event at Jefferson School, and it was very nice.

4. Native Plant Sale (April 24): Tony Pope reported that about 99% of the plants were sold at the sale. Right now there is close to $1400 profit, but credit card fees have not yet been deducted. Of the 250 customers about half were new to the sale and about half were returning. The majority were from Wheaton, and 43 communities were represented.

VI. Upcoming Projects:

1. Electronics Recycling (June 12): Tony Majszak will work this event, and Nancy will try to be there. Tony Pope will be out of town, but he will email Bob and David to see if they can attend.

VII. Unfinished Business:

1. Battery Recycling: tabled

2. Green Citizen planning for 2022: tabled

3. Nurses’ Closet: Nancy spoke with Mike Dzugan, and he will bring it up at the next planning session.

4. Annual Report (due June 15): Cathy emailed the report to members for comments and accuracy check

VIII. New Business:

Funding for EIC events: none needed

IX. Adjournment:

Cathy moved that the meeting be adjourned. Tony Pope seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 by unanimous voice vote.

The next regular EIC meeting is scheduled for June 22, 2021, at 7:30 P.M.
