National Education Association (NEA) members have voted to promote critical race theory teachings.
“America's largest teacher union voted to promote Critical Race Theory curriculum,” Illinois Review recently posted on Facebook. As part of the plan, NEA officials plan to assemble a team of staffers dedicated to sharing information about those who oppose the teachings and to “fight back against anti-CRT rhetoric.”
The curriculum is set to critique "empire, white supremacy, anti-Blackness, anti-ingidegeneity, racism, patriarchy, capitalism and other forms of power and oppression."
NEA’s stance comes as the Chicago Teacher’s Union is again being accused of abusing its powers by creating such vehicles as "Troublemakers School," which critics like Wirepoints founder Mark Glennon charges are instances where union dues and other resources will be used for political organizing. A flyer promoting the event touts it as an “opportunity for union members, delegates and activists to share strategies and build the solidarity required in these tough times.”
Glennon told Chicago City Wire union officials' approach and attitude toward things tell the story.
“They named their workshop 'Chicago Troublemakers School,’" he said. “What kind of message does that send to kids? Their greed is endless. Just today they said they want ‘every penny’ of the TIF property tax surplus the city was lucky enough to get this year. Average final salaries are close to $100,000 per year and average pensions for full-career teachers is about $70,000, which is absurd and unaffordable. That’s for 165 days of work per year and they don’t even have to contribute to their own pensions.”
