Report: Chicago School District spent $16,923 per student in 2019-20

Spending per pupil at Chicago School District 299 was up 10 percent from five years ago, according to the Chicago City Wire analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2019-20 report card showed the Cook County school district spent $15,378 per pupil in 2015-16. It spent $16,923 in 2019-20.

The district's enrollment fell from 392,051 to 347,476 students over the same period.

Chicago's spending in 2019-20 was 16.8 percent higher than the state average of $14,492.
