Sidewalk Signs Legalized
Effective March 1, sidewalk signs will be allowed in Chicago after a business obtains a permit issued by BACP. Sidewalks signs include A-frame, T-frame, or other temporary self-supporting type signs, placed on the public way. Think sandwich board with specials and discounts provided by a business.
For your awareness:
- The City permit application for sidewalk signs will be available on March 1, 2022 by visiting the City of Chicago’s Inspections, Permitting & Licensing web portal.
- BACP’s Public Way Use webpage
- Questions regarding Public Way Use should be directed to publicwayuse@cityofchicago.org or (312) 744-5430. Jaime Viramontes is currently the PWU lead.
