Republican candidate for Cook County board president, Bob Fioretti, said he lost his election to Democrat incumbent Toni Preckwinkle.

"To all those who believed in our cause of safer communities, sound budgeting and accountability, I am grateful. To all those who helped the cause, in any way, I am grateful. Your vote, your willingness to put up a yard sign, your outreach, it is all appreciated. We may have lost the battle, but I will always work to make our corner of the world a better place. Thank you," Fioretti wrote in a Facebook post.

Preckwinkle won approximately 67% of the vote to secure her fourth term as Cook County board president, WTTW reported. Fioretti won almost 30%. Preckwinkle previously said she was not planning on running again, but after a failed mayoral campaign in 2019, she changed her mind.

Preckwinkle said in a Facebook post, "Thank you to all the voters in Cook County for making your voices heard. I also want to thank the poll workers and officials who uphold and protect the integrity of our elections. I'm inspired by the fact that we all come together every election cycle to support and honor our democracy. It's a sacred commitment that we renew each time, and I'm grateful to be able to represent Cook County for the next four years."

Attorney and Chicago native Fioretti represented Chicago's 2nd Ward on the city council from 2007 to 2015, according to Ballotpedia. He also ran for mayor in 2015 and for state Senate in 2016.
