CHICAGO- Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) issued the following statement after the Chicago City Council approved aid for migrants:

“I commend Mayor Johnson and the City Council for approving $51 million in migrant aid. This moment requires us to move forward in coalition as we fight for opportunity and investment in Black and Brown communities.

“I migrated to Chicago when I was nine, and this city welcomed me and my family. Chicago was the nation’s first sanctuary city, and we must continue to live up to that legacy. Chicago is a city for all, and we must reject those trying to divide us.”
