 On June 6, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), released the following statement in response to recent comments on the future of aid to Ukraine:  

“Comments suggesting Congress suppress additional funds for Ukraine’s war effort are dangerous and signal to Vladimir Putin that our support for Ukraine is wavering. Make no mistake, helping Ukraine defeat Russia is in America’s best interest and the best interest of democracies around the world. Putin’s reign of terror must be stopped and the United States’ role is critical to this objective. We must continue providing Ukraine everything it needs to win this war.

“Statements that call into question the future of funding reinforce that radical extremists in the Republican party have undue sway. They are holding their party captive in an attempt to end aid to Ukraine and ultimately allow other vulnerable democracies to succumb to the whims of dictators. Those who support a supplemental spending package understand the importance of such aid. We have seen our assistance, whether it be military equipment or economic aid, turn the tide in this war. If fringe factions have their way and halt the flow of aid, it will send a message to Vladimir Putin that he has gained the upper hand—that the United States has given up. That should never be the case. We must help in this war until the very end—until Ukraine is victorious and Putin is defeated.”
