Chicago Alderman Monique Scott protested the city council’s plans to vote on their support for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas while violence and economic issues prevail in her ward.

“Lawndale is plagued by real issues, including a lack of jobs, lack of economic development, growing migrant crisis, lack of housing, homelessness, and never-ending violence in almost every one of the 77 neighborhoods,” Scott said in a post on Facebook. “Instead, the City Council on Wednesday will consider a resolution in support of a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. Something we have  no control over.”

“Where is the Cease-fire for the 9 woman shot on 14th & Keeler, 1 killed,  4 shot on Springfield and 15 shot on Halloween in North Lawndale and so many more shot throughout this city.  You voted for me to handle local issues that will affect the 24th Ward and that’s what I will continue to do.

The Chicago city council is set to vote on a resolution of support for a cease-fire in the Hamas-Israel conflict during their Jan. 31st meeting. The resolution is supported by Mayor Brandon Johnson, but is opposed by council members and constituents who wish to remain focused on issues within their own city.

Scott is a native of North Lawndale. She represents Ward 24, where she was first appointed to fill a vacancy in 2022 and won as an incumbent in the 2023 election. She has a  Bachelor’s degree from Jackson State University and a Master’s degree from National Louis University.
