CHICAGO - Mayor Brandon Johnson has announced the launch of the Mayor’s Youth Commission application for the 2024-2025 term. The commission, consisting of 40 young individuals from across the city, will advise the Mayor on policies affecting Chicago’s youth.
Mayor Johnson expressed his commitment to engaging directly with young people, stating, "One of my top priorities as Mayor is to listen to and engage with young people directly about not just the challenges they face, but also their hopes and aspirations for their futures."
Deputy Mayor Jen Johnson emphasized the importance of diverse perspectives, stating, "Young people are not a monolithic group; they bring a diversity of perspectives and experiences from different neighborhoods across our city."
Youth Commissioner Molly Wilson shared her positive experience, saying, "My time with the Mayor’s Youth Commission has been truly enriching. Discussing issues close to my heart and exploring ways to effect change in Chicago's community has been the highlight for me."
The Youth Commission will meet monthly to provide input on youth-focused initiatives and will work on proposing new policies or programs to address issues impacting young people in Chicago. Applicants must be between 14-19 years old and will be selected through a rigorous application process.
The 2024-2025 Mayor’s Youth Commission application will close on June 15, 2024. Interested individuals can find more information on the Mayor’s Youth Commission at explore.mychimyfuture.org/chicagoyouthcommission.
