Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has issued a warning to residents about the prevalence of ticket scams during the summer season. The announcement aims to help consumers avoid fraudulent schemes when purchasing tickets for events.
"With summer in full swing and many people looking forward to concerts, festivals, and other events, scammers are out in force," said Raoul. "It is crucial for consumers to be vigilant and ensure they are buying tickets from legitimate sources."
The Attorney General's office provided several tips for consumers to avoid falling victim to ticket scams:
1. Purchase tickets directly from the event's official website or authorized sellers.
2. Be wary of deals that seem too good to be true.
3. Verify the legitimacy of the seller before making any purchases.
4. Use credit cards for online transactions as they offer better protection against fraud.
Raoul emphasized the importance of taking precautions: "By following these simple steps, consumers can protect themselves from losing money and missing out on their favorite events."
Residents who believe they have been scammed are encouraged to file a complaint with the Attorney General's Consumer Fraud Bureau.
