City of Wheaton Board of Fire & Police Commissioners met June 6

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

I. Call to Order 

At 5:34 p.m., Chair Illia called to order the regular meeting of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. The meeting was held in the Gamon Room at Wheaton City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St., Wheaton, Illinois. Upon roll call, the following were present: Chair Illia, Commissioner Wanzenberg, Commissioner Cannova, Commissioner Vroman, and Commissioner Haines. Also present were Police Chief Youker, Deputy Chief Conway, and Human Resources Director Schulz. 

II. Public Comment - None 

III. Approval of Minutes 

Commissioner Vroman moved, and Commissioner Wanzenberg seconded to approve the meeting minutes from May 8th, 2024. 

Roll Call Vote: 

Ayes: Chair Illia 

Commissioner Cannova 

Commissioner Vroman 

Commissioner Wanzenberg 

Commissioner Haines 

Nays: None 

Motion Carried 

Old Business - None 

V. New Business 

a. Approval of Rules and Regulations of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners 

i. Commissioner Wanzenberg moved, and Commissioner Cannova seconded the  motion to approve the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners as presented. The motion carried unanimously 

b. Election of the Officers to the Board 

i. Commissioner Wanzenberg moved, and Commissioner Cannova seconded the  motion to elect Chair Illia and Secretary Haines to another 1-year term as  Officers of the Board of Fire and Police Commission. 

The motion carried unanimously. 

VI. Closed Session 

a. At 5:55 p.m. Commissioner Cannova moved, and Commissioner Wanzenberg seconded the motion to go into closed session for the purpose of approving closed session minutes from March 4th, 2024, and to interview a lateral Police candidate. The motion carried unanimously. 

b. At 6:45 p.m. Commissioner Wanzenberg moved, and Commissioner Cannova seconded the motion to come out of closed session. The motion carried unanimously.

VII. Approval of Police Lateral Candidate Finalist list 

a. Commissioner Wanzenberg moved, and Commissioner Cannova seconded to approve  additions to the Police Lateral Candidate Finalist List from interviews conducted on June  6th, 2024. The motion carried unanimously. 

VIII. Adjournment 

a. At 6:48 p.m. Commissioner Cannova motioned, and Commissioner Vroman seconded to adjourn the regular meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
